Clay Aiken Talks Prop 8

Sunday 31 May 2009 @ 6:10 am

Over on his official fansite message board, Clay Aiken was asked his opinion on the California Supreme Court’s ruling on Prop 8, which makes gay marriage illegal in the state, and the Gayken answered the question quite well!

Thank goodness!

Writes Clay:

“Loaded question. Hope I don’t get myself in trouble here again…

I will say that I am QUITE disappointed that Prop 8 passed in the first place. I could argue all day the myriad of reasons that I believe the US Constitution provides for equal rights for all people. And, as much as it is their right to have a differing opinion, I think that some of the arguments coming from the anti-gay side are stupid, hypocritical, and even contradict themselves.

That said, I can’t say that I am too upset by the CA Supreme Court’s ruling. While it is disappointing that same sex couples in CA will have to wait longer to have equal rights, at the same time I worry that a different ruling from the court would have caused far more trouble than good.

The bottom line is… no matter how much I hate it…. Prop 8 passed with the majority of the public vote. I don’t agree with them. I don’t think it is right, but it happened. I don’t think I would be comfortable allowing the courts the power to override the will of the people. Yes, I know the argument can be made that had the courts not struck down segregation in the south we may still have Jim Crow laws in place. However, (A) segregation was instituted by the states based on public opinion and not necessarily by an official vote and (B) the US Supreme Court struck down the practice of segregation. It didn’t overturn a specific vote.

I strongly believe that the next time that Californians go to the ballot box to vote on legalizing same sex marriage, the tides will turn. I truly believe that the majority of CA voters will support the equal rights of all people next time they are given the chance. While the CA Supreme Court may now be composed of justices who believe that same-sex marriage should be legal (remember they are the ones who made it legal in the first place), what happens when the public votes for same-sex marriage to be legalized, yet the CA Supreme Court is made up of justices who feel it should be illegal? Will they then have the power to overturn the vote? Its not a precedent I want set.

As much as I disagree with Prop 8, I don’t want to give the courts the power to ignore the will of the people. Because I expect that one day, even in North Carolina, the majority of voters will allow me the right to get married, and when that happens, I don’t want nine justices being able to change the outcome.

We can’t only agree with the system when it agrees with us.

That said…. Way to go Vermont, Massachusetts, Maine, Connecticut, and (fingers crossed) New Hampshire… and, bring on the next ballot California!

Yes yes yes!

The 2010 elections won’t know what hit them!

Fight for equal rights!

Susan Boyle finishes second to dance crew Diversity in ‘Britain’s Got Talent’!

Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 9:20 pm

Despite being the big favorite, it was nothing ventured nothing gained in the case of Susan Boyle who finished second to the ten-person dance crew Diversity on Britain’s Got Talent .

Boyle chose to sing the same song (video below) that first brought her fame, “I Dreamed a Dream.” We all know how beautifully she can sing that song, but at least I was hoping to see her show she could wow us again with something new. Perhaps playing it safe left the audience feeling the same way. Even so the judges were were on their feet at the end of her performance and Piers Morgan said she sang the song “better than you did last time” and that, to me, was the greatest performance in Britain’s Got Talent history.” In a post-performance interview, she said she still “hopes to get an album out,” but as to the immediate future, “Who knows? I’ll play it by ear.”

Congratulations to Diversity (performance below) who won 100,000 pounds and gets the honor of performing before Queen Elizabeth II in the Royal Variety Show in December.

Nadya Suleman Lands a Reality TV Deal

Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 9:20 pm

Nadya Suleman Lands a Reality TV Deal Publicity seeking octo-mother Nadya Suleman and her brood of 14 will have their own show joining the likes of the Duggar and Gosselin families.  Isn’t anyone tired of watching these poor stressed out parents collect these mbuttive pay checks to show off their families on TV? Describing the as-yet untitled show as a “quasi-reality TV series”, Suleman’s attorney Jeff Czech says the format has not been defined yet.  Nadya Suleman Lands a Reality TV Deal Nadya and Eyeworks, a television production company, are working on an arrangement whereby several events in the children’s lives would be filmed in a documentary series.  No word on how much Nadya will get paid, but I just hope the kids will get a cut that is protected until they hit 18. Supposedly Nadya is partly doing this to providing “her side of the story.”  I guess that hasn’t happened yet, despite all the  interviews she has done?Source

Ozzy Osbourne sues Tony Iommi over rights to Black Sabbath name

Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 9:20 pm

Ozzy Osbourne sues Tony Iommi over rights to Black Sabbath nameOzzy Osbourne is suing former original Black Sabbath guitar player, Tony Iommi, for half of the rights to the band’s name, which he claims Iommi has been using illegally.

According to court documents filed in Manhattan, the trademark is not legally owned by Iommi, who has been making a profit off of it for several years. The documents also point out that the drop in popularity of Black Sabbath after Ozzy’s departure in the eighties is proof that he was a large part of the success, and so deserves half of the trademark royalties. Osbourne is also seeking a cut of the profits that Iommi earned while touring under the Black Sabbath name in the 1990s when the band was in disarray after numerous changes to their lineup.
Osbourne said in a statement that he was sorry he had gone to the court over the dispute with Iommi which he said he had tried for three years to resolve amicably.

Rihanna and Chris Brown: Post-Coital, Pre-Beating Pics

Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 1:14 pm

It seems hard to believe now, but there was a time when Rihanna lay next to boyfriend Chris Brown with a look of satisfaction – as opposed to terror – on her face.

There was a time when the term “banging” between this couple was a synonym for love-making, not face-pummeling.

There was even a time when Chris Brown made Rihanna laugh, not bleed out of numerous orifices as the result of a beating so brutal it made professional boxers wince.

Those days are long gone, of course. But the following photos serve as a reminder of happier times between this pair.

While not as intimate as the recently-discovered Rihanna nude pics, we’ve uncovered a few shots of the singers from the days of yore. Where did it all go wrong?

Mother of Jon Gosselin Blasts "Twisted" Coverage of Son

Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 1:14 pm

Oh, that poor, innocent Jon Gosselin.

The man that invited reality TV cameras into his home (and who married that nag of a wife) is a victim of an unfair media. So claims a totally unbiased source: Jon’s mother, Pamela.

“I don’t think he will ever be portrayed fairly,” Mrs. Gosselin said to Star, after the tabloid shamelessly tracked her down at home. “It’s always twisted… I don’t think it’s fair, and it never will be.”

Don

Over the past few weeks, of course, Jon has been accused of shagging Deanna Hummel, agreeing to a marriage contract that allows for cheating and possibly violating child labor laws in the state of Pennsylvania.

In fact, here’s a look back at the last couple months in the lives of Jon and his annoying wife Kate. Click on each photo to enlarge it:

Nadya Suleman Reality Show: Confirmed!

Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 1:14 pm

Congratulations, Spencer Pratt. You’re no longer the biggest loser on reality TV.

After weeks of rumors – and fears from a scared nation -  Nadya Suleman has officially landed a reality show.

The disgraceful human being’s attorney, Jeff Czech, confirmed to Us Weekly that his client signed a deal this week to exploit her brood of 14 children for the world to see.

“[Nadya and the producers] are hoping to have an arrangement whereby several events in the children’s lives would be filmed in a documentary series,” Czech said. “One of the events in the children’s lives might be their first birthday.”

We can hardly wait!

Pathetic Reality Star

As for that other reality series that focuses on several children and has led to rumors of infidelity, marriage contracts and child labor law violations: Come on, Czech says, why would anyone think Octomom was anything like Jon and Kate Gosselin?!?

“Her television program will not be like the Jon and Kate Plus 8 show,” said Czech. “[Nadya] is looking forward to providing her side of the story.”

Are you looking forward to watching it? Will you tune in to the Octomom reality show?

Yes, I love this stuff!
No, it’s disgusting!
